Disruptive uncertainty is one of today’s biggest management challenges

Prepare your senior leaders with the ‘Ocean Racing’ Challenge: a unique on-the-water experience that simulates ocean racing – challenging them to compete for points while reacting to disruptive change and making decisions under pressure.

Your leaders will plan strategic sailing routes around navigational buoys to collect points.  They will then take command of 68 foot racing yachts to execute their plans, in competition to maximise their score.  Along the way, their plans will be disrupted by natural (which could have been anticipated) and unnatural (unexpected) events.  How will they respond?

This is a complex, multi-stage experience that will test their risk appetite, stretch their leadership skills, foster team cohesion and group problem solving; and above all, develop their ability to translate strategy into action in a disruptive, uncertain environment.

This experience is physically demanding, emotionally engaging and mentally challenging.  Sharing this experience, in an out-of-comfort-zone environment, will build lasting bond between teams and competitors alike.

The honest discussion in the debrief session will really open them up to one another. Energy is high and defensiveness low – the ideal state for honest reflection, discussion and self-improvement.  The FIRO-B psychometric profile will heighten their self-awareness and maximise their insights from the sailing experience. It will help them translate those insights into workplace situations so they can think more strategically, lead more effectively and work more cohesively with less conflict.
