The Official Biography
Round the World Yacht Race Winning Skipper.
In 2009, Brendan skippered a racing yacht in the ultimate long distance challenge, The Clipper Round the World Yacht race – a 35,000-mile circumnavigation of the globe, contested by amateur crews in identical racing yachts.
Although Brendan was the youngest and least experienced skipper in the race, he and his team won it in convincing fashion. He didn’t win because he was the best sailor or strategist, but because he created the most engaged and empowered on-board culture, with a compelling vision, strong values and a continuous-improvement mindset.
Brendan is an international keynote speaker, who teaches organisations how to develop their own internal culture to achieve even greater success in the face of change, disruption and uncertainty.
Lover of the Open Ocean,
Husband, Father & Chief Ball-Thrower
Well… that’s the formal description over and done with. My version is much less superman sounding! If I had to sum it up I’d say I’m a racing sailor, loving husband, father and a friend to dogs everywhere.
I made a big career change, leaving a “sensible career” behind and moving to the other side of the world to become a professional sailor, with no idea of the adventure I had in store.
I love hearing the stories of great, every-day leaders and the cultures they create.
