LEADING FROM THE CENTRE

For middle managers, 5+ team members and departmental strategic responsibility

The middle management layer of any organisation is a challenging place to be. Having to carefully balance the needs of human capital with commercial delivery, whilst feeling sandwiched between the high expectations from above and the demands from below.

This masterclass gives middle management delegates a unique perspective on the human element of managing a team in an extreme environment and what tools worked to find balance and meet expectations.

Learning outcomes

An ability to use ‘trust cues’ to foster higher levels of trust across departments.

Linguistic tools used to invite autonomy and empower their teams – making the journey from directing force to supporting presence.

U

A reflection on how their Emotional Intelligence affects their department.

v

An appreciation for the ‘cost’ of speaking up, and how they can influence it.

DRIVING PERFORMANCE

LEADING FOR PERFORMANCE

For managers in an early leadership role

Taking on your first leadership role is a big step into uncertainty. Your technical expertise, which has propelled you to this level, is no longer what you’re judged or measured on. Now, it’s all about getting results, through others. As the famous saying goes – What got you here, won’t get you there.

This masterclass gives new leaders a case study of a leader (me) on the same journey as they are and the hard lessons I learned along the way, which are recontextualised into the delegates’ work environment and explored in detail.

Learning outcomes

|

Use the language of leadership – communicate intent, over direction.

An ability to consistently signal trust and create psychological safety.

Emotional Intelligence and the power of their individual ‘mood shadow’.

Smart Delegating – knowing when technical competence warrants greater autonomy. Learning to be okay with ‘letting go’.

w

Creating the space for honest conversations and lesson learning.
